FITO (Spanish Champ.)

A very rainy Saturday conditioned greatly the Fito Hillclimb, the Spanish round of the European Championship and second round of this year national series. Speed Car was present at the classic Asturian event with the three drivers that this year are following the Spanish Championship with the Industrias Lahoz built car, Edgar Montellá and Miguel Ángel Aldomar, with two GTR integrated in the category 2, and Pedro Aldomar, at the wheel of a GT 1000 running in the category 1.

Edgar Montellà
(5th cat.2)

Miguel Ángel Aldomar
(11th cat.2)

Pedro Aldomar
(7th cat.1)

Edgar Montella was fourth in the three climbs held under the rain on Saturday, the last one being the first timed event for the Spanish Championship entrants. On Sunday it didn't rain but even if the asphalt conditions were improving along the morning, the whole track wasn't totally dry, with some damp patches in the last section. The Andorra born driver put his Speed Car GTR fourth again in the final practice and the second race climb, but lost some ground in the final one, when he was 7th, and finally ended up 5th of the category 2, just 17 thousands shy of 4th. Anyway, with the points scored in the Fito Hillclimb, Edgar is now third overall in the series for the group 'CM-Promoción' cars.

A first time at the Fito is always hard, and even more with so much rain and changing conditions. So it wans't easy at all for the Alomar brothers in thir maiden run at the Asturian hillclimb, although both managed to get to the end of the technicall and difficult track starting from Arriondas. Miguel Ángel kept improving his times to finish 11th in the category 2, just 3 tenths from a top 10 position. Pedro couldn't finish Saturday race climb but did it in the two run on Sunday to be 7th in the category 1 of the Spanish Championship.
