AUTOCROSS MIRANDA DE EBRO (Spanish Champ.)


The second last round of the 2019 Spanish Autocross Championship was held the 7th and 8th of September at Miranda de Ebro.

The event in the Burgos area was entered by more than 100 drivers. There were Speed Car entrants in three categories of the series, Division III, Car Cross and Junior. The best result scored by a driver at the wheel of one of the Industrias Lahoz built cars was the second position of Joan Salichs with a Xtrem.

DIVISIÓN III

Iñaki Alberdi
(7th Div.III)

The Speed Cars were back in the Division III at Miranda de Ebro thanks to Iñaki Alberdi and his TTR. The basque driver set the fifth best time in qualifying and was sixth and twice third in the heats, results that put him among the main contenders for the podium positions in the final.

Sadly, the quite eventfull race wasnpt very lucky for the Speed Car driver. Despite being able to avoid the multiple first lap incident that prompted to a red flag, in the restart, Alberdi lost a wheel when was running third and had to retire after just two laps, being classified in seventh position.

More than a quarter of the Car Cross entrants at Miranda de Ebro, ten out of thirty eight, where at the wheel of the Speedcar Xtrem, once again the most popular model in a national event. Furthermore, seven of the fifthteen to got to the final where Speedcar drivers, showing again the great performances of the Xtrem, winners in five of the heats, two thanks to Salichs and one by Moll, Puigvert and Arqué.

The best result in the final was scored this time by Joan Salichs, who got his first podium of the season after finishing second. The Escudería Lleida driver lead at the beginning of the race and even if he couldn't keep the first position until the end, he crossed the finish line barely a couple of seconds behind the winner to score his best result of the year so far and get up to the fourth position in the series standings.

The Speed Car drivers finished right behind the podium positions. Fourth was Jordi Puigvert after a close fight with his team mate Josep Arqué, with less than three tenths between them under the chequered flag. Less than three seconds behind finished Juan José Moll, sixth this time. The Escudería Mollerusa remains at the lead of the series with just one race to go. His team mate, Pol Catalá, was eight at Miranda de Ebro, while the other two Speed Car drivers in the final were unlucky. Josep María Vila rolled out of the race in the first corner, causing a red flag, and Gorka Olaizola aldo got out of the race in the first lap.

CAR CROSS JUNIOR

Four of the ten competitors in the Car Cross Junior drove the Xtrem by Speed Car althought this time none of them managed to get to the podium. Three Speedcar drivers finished from sixth to eight, with Eduard Bañeres ahead of Pol Durán and Biel Gavilán, and just a second between the three under the chequered flag at the end of the eight laps race. The fourth Speed Car in the Junior category at Miranda de Ebro was Josep Aranda, who finished tenth.

In the series standings, Bañeres is fourth, just three points shy of the third, so we's figthing for a podium position in the final round of the series, due at Cerro Negro by the end of September
