ESTEPONA PEÑAS BLANCAS HILLCLIMB (Spanish Champ.)

Quite a rainy start for the 2018 Spanish Hillclimb Championship and a good result for the Speed Car driver Edgar Montellá. The young from Andorra was third in the category 2 at the wheel of his GTR.

The hillclimb of the Malaga region was affected by very bad weather, making really hard the work for the organizers, drivers and teams. Saturday was specially tough, with heavy rain and strong winds that were getting worse, making hard to just keep the cars on the road. Finally, several incidents forced to cancel the final part of the first timed climb, as the poor visibility didn't allow the start of the copetitors in the categories 1 and 2. Among them was Edgar Montellá, who was fifth with his Speed Car GTR in the first practice and third in the second, being the later his position in the provisional results once the steward decided to asign their best practice time to the drivers that didn't run in the timed climb.

On Sunday the conditions were improving and that allowed to run the second timed run on a still damp asphalt while the final climb was done whitout rain and already on an almost dry track.

At the first one, Edgar drove very well on the slipery surface and finished second, just half a second behind the leader, Garikoitz Flores. In the final run, tough, when there were scored the best times of the whole weekend, the Speed Car driver couldn't keep the second position, finishng third. Finally, with the times of the two best climbs for each driver, Montellá finished third in the category 2, and was eigth overall.
