The 8th Peñas Blancas Estepona Hillclimb, held the 12 and 13 of March, was the beginning of the 2016 Spanish Hillclimb Championship. The event near Malaga attracted a great entry list, with more than 70 contenders for the three categories of the series. In the category 2 raced two Speed Cars, the GTR of the cantabrian Juan Castillo, and the GT1000 of the andalusian Bartolomé Cazrola

Castillo was back to the national championship after a long time running mainly in the regional series, and did it in style with a good showing, being among the fastest of the category 2 along the whole weekend. The Cantabria born driver was third in the first timed run, held on Saturday, and secured that position being third again in the first of the two timed climbs held on Sunday. Finally, after being fourth in the last climb, Juan placed his Speed Car GTR in third position of the final standings, for which counted the best two times of each driver.

Cazorla entered the round of Estepona with his mind in the points for the Andalusia championship. At the wheel of his Speed Car GT1000, the andalusian driver was fourth in the single seater at the Phase A, held on Saturday, while he couldn't cpmplete the Phase B on Sunday.
